Child Eye Exam in Topeka

Has your child had their first eye exam? North Topeka Vision Center knows that vision plays a crucial role in childhood development. That’s why Dr. Lance honors the InfantSEE® program and offers a FREE eye exam to children 3 years of age and younger. Vision problems occur in 10% of preschool & 25% of school-aged children. Correcting vision problems early in a child’s life is very important. This allows a child to have a fair shot at performing well in school. Children are also more responsive to treatment at a younger age when the vision system is still developing.

Having 4 young children of his own, Dr. Lance is highly experienced and talented when it comes to working with children. This is an area of work that Dr. Lance truly enjoys.

Please be sure to let us know if your child has a history of any of the following:

According to the AOA (American Optometric Association) infants should receive their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. If there are no visual problems, children should receive their second eye exam at 3 years old and then again at 5 or before preschool. Children at this age are developing and fine tuning their vision, which makes this an important time in their life. Professional eye exams are needed to make sure children are on the right track. The ability to learn relies greatly on visual senses. Children who have trouble seeing the blackboard or the print in a book can become frustrated, which results in poor performance.

During a child’s eye exam, we make sure these basic skills are developing correctly.
